The Sky Cracked, and Nobody Noticed

A tear in the fabric of nothing
A single thread dangling, swaying
Is it wind
Or is the world just breathing its last?
Nobody looks up anymore
Eyes too heavy
With the weight of knowing
The ground shifts
Fissures open beneath the skin of the earth
But the streets are still
No sound but the hum of the unseen

Do you hear it?
The quiet scratch of the stars rearranging themselves
Each one falling out of place
Like loose teeth in a dream
Somewhere, the moon laughs
But its voice is swallowed whole
By the silence of the world forgetting
What it means to listen

A leaf spirals down
Caught in the grip of something that isn't gravity
Hands reach for it
But the fingers fold back on themselves
Looping
Curling inward like a question with no answer
Still, the clocks keep ticking
But time has long since left the room
A faint echo trapped in the walls

Is this the end?
Or just another beginning we refuse to see?
The sky cracked wide
But nobody noticed
Too busy counting footsteps
Too busy building towers out of sand
That slip between the fingers
Like water pretending to be solid
